This year Ground Zero Salons celebrates our 20-year anniversary. On July 21, 1987, I took over Powelton Hair Studio, a small basement salon on the corner of 36th and Powelton streets. Over the last 20 years, I had the opportunity to grow Ground Zero Salons to five different locations around the city: Chestnut Hill, Manayunk, Conshohocken, Queen Village and Powelton Village. We are in the process of opening Center City as well.

The four other Ground Zero owners and I are very excited to be able to celebrate 20 years of continued growth, creativity, education, mentorship and community involvement.

In honor of our anniversary we decided to throw a party - a big party. And in keeping up with Ground Zero tradition, we decided to make it a benefit. Ground Zero Salons are proud to announce a partnership with Jefferson Hospital to help build and develop the Jefferson Breast Care Center located at 1100 Walnut Street. Our idea is to have a party where we could invite all of our friends, family, clients and business associates who have been a part of our lives for the last 20 years will help us celebrate our anniversary as well support this important charitable initiative.

Knowing that this kind of event would need a lot of help I called a couple of friends and enlisted many of our clients. Tony Kindness, and the Aroundphilly.com staff, as well as Tracy Shannon and Scott Caplan, from Sweat Gyms, have signed on as co-sponsors to our event. Aroundphilly.com is an online entertainment resource for Philadelphia and the suburbs, as well as offers web development services. They agreed to design a website for the Ball as well as feature sponsors on the Aroundphilly.com website.

The owners of Sweat Gym agreed to host the event at the newest Sweat Gym & Ground Zero Center City location at 15th & Arch streets.

We thought what better way to show who we were than by having a fashion show. After working with the Philadelphia Cheerleaders before, we thought that they would be perfect for our event (since the cheerleaders already have a partnership with Jefferson Hospital). Moore College of Art Senior design students are creating pink dresses for their senior project. The Bridal Garden and Warrior Clothing will also be participating in the fashion show.

Ronnie Polaneczky of the Daily News will host the fashion show. Confirmed participants include Team Quest members of Aquage who will be there to do hair and makeup. Sondesky Designs will be on board with Aroundphilly.com to help design the invitations.

After a committee meeting with overwhelming response, we recruited many vendors that will help with this event. We are continuing to recruit more people in the future so we can make this a huge charity event.

The Black & White Ball with a Touch of Pink will be July 21, 2007 from 9:00 pm-1:00 am. It will be a black-and-white only attire event, featuring some the best food, drink and entertainment Philadelphia has to offer.

Ground Zero Salons is proud to be part of a great networking community in Philadelphia, which is always known for the highest form of professionalism and the ability to always rally for a wonderful cause. With many months to go before the event, now is the time for us to organize our sponsorships and involve you and your community.

Please call 215.925.4222 to obtain a packet of information for you and anyone interested in getting involved in the Black and White Ball benefiting Jefferson Hospital Breast Center.

So many of us know someone touched by this horrible disease. It's amazing to think that we can actually help a local hospital build a great center for breast cancer care.

Sincerely,
Wendy Weinstein
